CES 2013 : Day-3 Summary

It was not a good show on Day-3 at CES '13 here in Las Vegas. Largely it was a day for companies making products other than laptops, ultrabooks or mobiles. Here it goes all that happened on Day-3 :

MOTORHEAD
Motorheadphones at CES '13
Motorhead yesterday unveiled a pair of headphones at CES '13, specially designed for listeners of rock and metal metal music. The headphones branded " Anti-Beats " were revealed by Lemmy Kilmister, the band's singer and bassist, the name of the headphones being a clear dig at the very popular “Beats” series of headphones by hip-hop artist Dr. Dre.
The Motorheadphones feature an all-metal build and will be available in both over-the-ear and in-ear variants with the former priced at a range of $99.99 to $129.99 and the latter priced from $49.99 to $59.99. The headphones are currently being sold in Europe and will be launched in the U.S. In April 2013. There is no word yet on an India launch.

BenQ claims that the RL2455HM features BenQ's Black eQualizer to enable total visibility by allowing gamers to adjust the screen brightness without over-exposing white levels - revealing critical combat details with improved visibility in darkened areas. To accommodate individual viewing preferences, a Display Mode allows gamers to switch between seven monitor screen sizes while the Smart Scaling feature gives gamers the ability to scale the screen on-the-fly to virtually any custom size - ranging from a 24-inch 1080p HD display to a traditional 17-inch 4:3 format. The monitor provides custom settings for colour enhancement, and features 2-watt internal stereo speakers.

SAMSUNG
Samsung Flexible Prototype "Youm"
Samsung's Brian Berkelely, at the company's keynote speech at CES 2013, unveiled a prototype flexible OLED display, called 'Youm'. Samsung today talked up a new flexible display technology, dubbed Youm, and showed off a prototype device that allows a user to bend the screen back and forth with ease. The demo was part of Samsung's keynote speech here at CES, where Stephen Woo, president of Samsung's System LSI business, talked about what's ahead for the consumer electronics giant.

HUAWEI
Chinese tech giant Huawei moved further into the high end of the smartphone market on Monday, unveiling two devices for Asian consumers aimed at rivaling the top global sellers. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Huawei unveiled its new Ascend Mate claimed to have the world's biggest screen for such a device, a 6.1 inch display as well as an Intel processor and improved battery life.

The company also showed its new flagship Ascend D2, touring its power-saving and easy sharing capacity. Huawei consumer group chief Richard Yu called the Ascend Mate "an industry-leading smartphone" which "showcases our innovation as we continue to make great technology available to more people globally." The two Android-powered devices, offering some of the sleek lines of the top sellers, will nonetheless be competing in a crowded market with phones from Apple, Samsung, and some powered by Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system.

After launching Huawei Ascend Mate and Ascend D2 at the CES 2013, the Chinese handset maker is now showing some Windows Phone 8 love.
Huawei had long been mentioned as one of the four original Windows Phone 8 manufacturers and while we've seen Windows Phone 8 offerings from Nokia, HTC and Samsung, Huawei had been missing in action until now.
Huawei has finally launched its Ascend W1 smartphone, which comes with a 4-inch IPS LCD screen and a resolution of 480x800. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8230 dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 512 MB of RAM. There is 4GB on-board memory, which can be expanded to up to 32GB with a microSD card.

POLAROID
Polaroid last night unveiled the world's first Android-powered mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with a 18-megapixel censor at CES 2013 in Las Vegas. The iM1836 camera will be manufactured by Sakar International, an authorised Polaroid licensee.

The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-running camera comes standard with a 10-30mm optical zoom lens, and is capable of recording full-HD video. It features 3.5-inch display will hit store shelves in the first quarter of 2013 for a price of $399.
The iM1836 aims to combine the image quality of mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras like the Nikon V1, J1, Nikon J2, Canon EOS M, Fujifilm X-Pro 1, Samsung NX300 and the convenience of Android-based cameras like Nikon Coolpix S800c and Samsung Galaxy Camera. Before this, Sony had come the closest to combining the two worlds, with the Wi-Fi enabled mirrorless NEX-5R, minus the Android. Polaroid also announced the launch of two iM1836 cousins. First, the non-Android, Wi-Fi only iM1232W for $349 and the non-Android, non-Wi-Fi iM1030 for $299. It also unveiled the iS2433 with a 16-megapixel sensor and 24x optical zoom for $199.
